Cedarburg’s open spaces and natural surroundings add beauty to the lifestyle, without infringing on practicality. The charm of Cedarburg brings people to visit, but it is the convenience that makes them stay. The community is only about 20 miles north of Milwaukee, a hub of activity with nearly 600,000 residents. On average, Cedarburg residents travel about 20 minutes to work each day. The primary employing industries are manufacturing, educational, health and social services and professional and management services.
In Cedarburg, recreation often involves outdoor exercise. Bicycling, cross-country skiing, golf and exploring the natural surroundings are popular. Cedar Creek, Riveredge Nature Center and community parks provide open spaces for adults and children to enjoy. The nature center is located between Saukville and West Bend, about 12 miles north of Cedarburg. It is a 350-acre facility that features 12 miles of trails that wind along the Milwaukee River. A destination of choice for birdwatchers, Riveredge, is home to more than 65 species of birds.
Golfers will also appreciate the variety of courses within driving distance. There are more than five courses within five miles of Cedarburg and four courses in the community of Mequon alone.
Community festivals provide residents the opportunity to socialize and celebrate their local culture. Cedarburg hosts a variety of activities year-round, including holiday and seasonal celebrations. The most popular events, however, are the Strawberry Festival, Winter Festival and Wine and Harvest Festival. Each event features competitions, crafts, food, live entertainment, plus special themed activities. Examples are “Bed Races on Ice,” wine tasting and grape stomping.
The Cedarburg climate generally remains cool with a moderate amount of annual rainfall. Average temperatures range from the low 70’s to the high teens. In the warmest month of the year, July, high temperatures can stretch into the 80’s, while lows may hit single-digits in January. The heaviest rainfall months are June, July and August and total annual precipitation is usually about 33 inches. Snowfall is common December through February.
